Got talking to a random pom last night who got himself into a bit of trouble when he tried to adopt some Aussie slang. He interpreted the phrase “chuck a sickie” rather literally, and thought it meant actual vomiting illness. So he thought nothing of it when he was crook one day and texted his boss that he was chucking a sickie. His boss was just impressed at the ballsiness of it, I think, and rolled with it.
So to everyone out there chucking a sickie today, I hope you’re enjoying it.
